The west district spreads over an area of 130.6 sq. km., which is fourth largest in Delhi. This means that the West district covers 8.81% area of the total Delhi. The district has common boundaries with the Northwest, North, Central and the Southwest district. It shares its West Boundary with the state of Haryana. Rohtak Road and the Northern Railway Line marks the Northern Boundary, Najafgarh Drain being the South Western edge of the district, then divides the district in two parts. The Northern Railway Line also marks the Eastern boundary of the district and the Pankha Road marks the Southern side.

Administrative Divisions
The district headed by Deputy Commissioner West and Additional District Magistrate is mainly divided into three sub-divisions/ tehsils named as Rajouri Garden, Patel Nagar and Punjabi Bagh. Punjabi Bagh is the largest Subdivision of the district. It has a number of rural settlements – Mundaka, Ranhola, Baprola, Tikri Kalan, etc; urban settlements like Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, etc. Patel Nagar subdivision has only two rural settlements – Khampur Raya and Rajapur Khurd. The overall character of the subdivision is urban with areas like Patel Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri. Moti Nagar, etc. Rajouri Garden subdivision has no rural settlements. It has areas like Rajouri Garden, Subhash Nagar, Hari Nagar, Mansarover Garden.The district is thickly populated and most of the people in this area have been migrated from other parts at the time of division of country in 1948. There are number of big and small factories in the district, resulting into large labor population migrated from other states of the country. There is a mixed culture among people as they belong to various states of the country. The district has 4 local railway stations namely: Naraina, Inder Puri, Patel Nagar and Kirti Nagar.
